Alisha S.
OTD, OTR/L Occupational Therapist
Hi! I'm Alisha
I attended the University of South Carolina for my undergrad and joined the Air Force after graduation in 2005. After serving 12 years, I separated and found yoga. I loved what it did for my body and mind so much that I became an instructor. We moved to Caddo Mills in 2018 and I began teaching at local gyms in Royse City. One day my therapist asked me THE question that changed my life: “Have you ever thought about occupational therapy?” I was seeing an OT for shoulder issues, and he introduced me to the profession.
I was accepted into Texas Woman’s University’s Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program at their Dallas Campus in 2021 with absolutely zero intention to work in pediatrics (never say never, right?). I completed a 12-week rotation at a school district, and shocker, I LOVED those kiddos. They teach us about life, resiliency, and how to have fun. My next rotation was in a neuro-acute care ward in a large Dallas hospital, which I also loved. I learned how to meet my students & patients where they are physically, mentally, and emotionally, just like I did with my yoga clients.
Then, I met Danielle Howerton on the recommendation of my hair stylist. Danielle took me on for my capstone project about creating a vocational program for neurodiverse adults transitioning out of the school system. I was fortunate enough to come to SPT in the fall of 2024, and I am incredibly grateful to be entrusted with your hearts daily. Outside work I enjoy time with my husband and dog, finding new adventures, paddle boarding, gardening, crafting, house projects, and of course, yoga.
