Pragmatic (Social) Language Disorder
Pragmatic Language Disorder is makes it difficult to communicate with other people in social situations
Pragmatic Language Disorder: Difficulty using language in social situations.
Signs/symptoms of a Pragmatic Language Disorder include:
- Difficulty changing language to accommodate the listener (e.g., child uses the same language with a friend and teacher)
- Difficulty using language for different reasons (greeting, requesting, promising, demanding, commenting).
- Saying inappropriate or unrelated things during a conversation
- Does not follow conversational rules (taking turns, beginning new topics, staying on topic, clarifying when misunderstood)
- Trouble understanding and using socially acceptable rules (personal space, maintaining eye contact, using non verbal signals and facial expressions)
- Difficulty with vocabulary and grammar.
